Barbara Gail Blate With
A Work in Progress

About the Instructor …

Barbara Gail Blate is a Tryon, North Carolina fabric artist and teacher. She holds a BA in Art Education and an MS in Special Education. Having taught art to blind children, she brings a unique way of "seeing" to her fabric art and classes, inspiring students to look beyond their usual fields of vision. Her recent completion of the Mandala:Holistic Reflection of the Self Certificate Program has added new insights and dimensions to her own fabric work and classes.

One of her greatest pleasures is helping others develop the confidence to reach beyond their inhibitions and perceived limitations to discover their own inner creativity. Her warm, flexible teaching style creates a class atmosphere of acceptance, encouragement and stimulation. And her workshops at quilt guilds and fabric art groups in the Southeast US and The Quilters of South Carolina Pieceable Retreats have been well received for many years. However, she is more than just an educator. Her explorations of watercolor painting, stained glass work and fabric design, including batik, silk-screen, fabric paints and quilting, provide a wealth of personal resources to share with her students and friends.
